3 Important Reasons Kids Need to Develop Talents

Many times, kids’ talents are wasted because they are ignored or disregarded  by their peers. Kids need to develop talents for these 3 reasons:

1. Our talents are gifts from our Heavenly Father

Heavenly Father has given us wonderful talents, each of them unique for all of us. He wants us to develop our talents to fulfill our special missions on earth and to bless the lives of all those around us. Moroni 10:18 states about this:

“And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that every good gift cometh of Christ.”

2. As we develop our talents, we worship The Lord

Since our talents are gifts from a God, when we show them to everyone, we are worshipping Him. In the scriptures, Christ shares the story of the talents. (In this case, talents are money.) In the story, a wealthy man gives each his servants a certain amount of money, expecting them to multiply their talents. To one, he gave one talent. To another, he gave five, and to the last, he gave two. Each servant doubled the amount, except for the servant that got one talent. Instead, he buried it up. When the master came he was pleased with the two that multiplied, but disappointed with the other, which ended up having to give his to the others. Christ told this story to teach that we should multiply our talents and use them.

3. Our talents can help others

The main reason God gave us talents is so we can share them with others through service. Other people may not have specific talents we have, which they need. We can help others worship The Lord as well, if we shine our light. Matthew 5:16 says:

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Our “good works” can be simple acts of kindness we give to others using our unique and special talents.

Our talents can come in many different ways, but they are all amazing. Here are just a few talents we can show:

  • Vocal talent (singing)
  • Design
  • A particular subject you excel in
  • Instrumental
  • Writing
  • Art
  • Dancing

And many, many, many more talents can be developed! I show my talent by writing, painting, dancing, and singing! My developed talents constantly bless others around me. I use them to teach others basic principles that are very important. They also make great gifts! :)

It is always wrong and harmful to you when you ignore your true potential, and when others ignore it. 1 Timothy 4:14 talks about neglecting talents. It says:

“Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy.”

Thank you for reading! I hope you now understand why you need to develop talents!
