In-Depth Interview with Joel Marion, Best-Selling Author of “Always Eat After 7 PM”

Last week, we began our journey together with the best-selling book, Always Eat After 7 PM.

The book sheds light on countless questions, but I’ve had the unique privilege of actually getting to hear from Joel himself! Here are some of the questions he answered:
What inspired you to write the book?
“After authoring 6 best-selling books, it was glaringly obvious there were 2 huge misconceptions about dieting that needed to be exposed. The first is that you can’t eat late at night or before bed, which science now shows is NOT true. And second, you can’t eat large portions that satisfy your natural instinct. This book solves both these problems by providing an evidence-based, enjoyable approach to dieting that can be used by any person to quickly achieve their weight loss goals.”
I was shocked when I learned that eating smaller portions is actually not a secret to health, and also that eating later can be beneficial. As a fellow best-selling author, I definitely wanted to know more about Joel’s experience in the writing world.
You’re a six-time best selling author (which is an incredible thing all on its own.) What is different about this book compared to your others?
“Although many of the concepts are similar, the biggest difference is that you don’t have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. You don’t have to deal with the burden of eating every few hours. And you don’t have to skip the carbs at dinnertime or avoid eating before bed.”
I love the idea of still being able to eat what I like, but more effectively. I know this will help me out in college, when I’ll have to find ways to balance my studies and activities with eating. I can see how eating at night will definitely help. Here is a quote from the book about eating late:
“Late-night eating also curbs calorie intake the next day. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day.”
One of the most remarkable things about the book is how scientifically sound the whole system is. What surprised you about the research you did? How long did it take for you to develop the diet?
“The most surprising discovery was that almost everything my college education and certifications taught me was NOT grounded in published scientific research.
It actually took several years of researching for me to discover the real science of eating late night. After a few years of tweaking and refining, I finally came up with a rapid fat loss solution that overcomes all the pitfalls of traditional diets.”
In following the Always Eat After 7PM, my specific focus is fat loss, since I feel like I could increase my strength, and make my core muscles stronger. I love that it won’t be hard for me to make specific adjustments, but I’ll also get my desired results.
